The Importance of Science Center Membership

Here at the Science Center we know that our endeavors are important to you and your family. Educating our children and exposing them to science and discovery are not only part of our mission, but it is our passion. With your help, we can continue programs to teach our children about habitats, sea life, globular clusters, microorganisms, artifacts and all other science topics found between astronomy and zoology!

As a Science Center member you will receive discounts on workshops, priority registration, gift shop discounts, reduced admission fees, all Science Center publications and many more additional special member privileges!

The Science Center offers children a unique opportunity to learn about science in an engaging, hands-on fashion where they can explore topics and use methodologies that are often unavailable in a classroom environment. Activities that provide students with the opportunity to participate and be actively involved are far more effective than instruction in which they are passive. But such inquiry-based instruction requires time and resources (set-up, clean-up, laboratories and supplies) that are expensive.

Thanks for wanting to help! Because we know that different families have different financial priorities, we have developed a membership category suitable for you, or perfect for gift giving!

Middle and High School Students Don't  Miss This!

An exciting opportunity for middle and high school students is coming to the Science & Technology Education Innovation Center (Science Center). Together with its partners, the Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Florida MEP) and John Ratzenberger’s to introduce "cool manufacturing" to over 1,000 students in the Pinellas region.

Students will be introduced to an innovative production system called “Lean Manufacturing.” The Florida MEP will host this half-day event in a fast-paced, action-packed role-playing environment in which students will become “employees” of a “company” that manufactures clocks. The process starts in total chaos with students scrambling to get clocks made; it ends in organized functions that let students produce hundreds of clocks, running the company on their own. The students take away:

  • Knowledge of how the products they use every day are produced
  • An understanding of the importance of standardized work
  • An ability to accurately read instructions and work in a timely manner
  • An awareness of the processes that impact their daily lives
  • The skills to set measureable goals and action plans for school projects
  • More options to apply when the time comes to choose a career

Register will soon be open please check back for details.
