Planetarium show: Ring World

Planetarium times:  6:00pm, 6:45pm, 7:30pm,

8:15pm, and 9:00pm

 Lecture time: 7:15 pm

Professor Schrader will present a lecture on Mercury and Venus

 Movie : 8:30pm

 Free Willy 4: Escape From Pirate's Cove

Telescope viewing: 8:30pm- 11:00pm

 

Join The Science Center of Pinellas and the St. Petersburg Astronomy

Club for a fun family evening to observe Mercury, Venus and the moon.

 

We are continuing to enter your names on a microchip to send to the Mars Science Laboratory rover heading to Mars in 2011!  A certificate will be provided.     

 

The movie will be shown in our rear courtyard.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets! 

  In the case of inclement weather the movie will be held inside.

 

$3.00 Per Person Donation 

 Pizza , snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase: 

between 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Hurricanes and Other Natural Disasters Expo 

How to Prepare for the Unexpected

 

The Science Center of Pinellas is having it’s annual Hurricane and Other Natural Disasters Expo on June 5, 2010.  The Pinellas County Communications Department, working in conjunction with the Emergency Management Department will provide an overview of their plan.  The American Red Cross will discuss how to prepare for a Hurricane.  Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist will be on site.  St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue will be on site with an engine.

 

The first 100 children who attend will receive a FREE T-shirt!

 The Salvation Army will have their On-the-road disaster kitchen rig on display.

 

The Science Center will be open for planetarium shows, marine science exhibits, weather experiments and much more!  Be sure to join us for a day of activities.  Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Lecture by John O'Neill: Hubble Telescope  7:15pm

Movie #1:  Aliens Vs. Monsters   6:30pm

Movie #2: Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen  8:15pm

Join The Science Center of Pinellas and the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club for a fun family evening to observe the crescent waxing moon and Mars.

Cross your fingers for clear weather.

 

John O'Neill of the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club will give a lecture on the Hubble Telescope and show new pictures just released.

Sign up for the Glory Mission. "Send your name around the Earth" project Glory: "We got your back, Earth."  Glory mission will measure solar energy entering the Earth's atmosphere.

A certificate will be provided to the registrants.

 

As part of our monthly Sci-Fi and Sky event, we will have a double feature.  For the younger crowd we will  be featuring the animated movie  Aliens Vs. Monsters. For the adults and older children we will be showing

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. Movies will be shown in our rear courtyard.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets!  In the case of inclement weather movie will be held inside .

 

In addition the Astronomy Club will have telescopes set up for Mars and the Crescent Moon viewing.

Pinellas Science Center Bot Challenge
Held on January 9th, 2010

Science Center to host FIRST Tech Challange Robotics Competition with Raytheon.

Florida students engagetd in a serious high-tech competition with blue-toothed controlled

robots.  The competition -- titled the Science Center BOT Challenge, was co hosted by

Seminole High School.  In the event sixteen teams from around the State of Florida

demonstrated their engineering, programming, operational skills and team talents against

one another on the FTC playing field.  The FTC is a mid-level robotics competition for high

school students.  It offers the traditional challenge of a FIRST competition but with a more

accessible and affordable robotics kit.

The registration qualified teams to compete in the state competition at USF in

February.
