The Science Center Partners with INDUSTRY

For over 52 years, the main focus of the Science Center has been offering quality science programming to students in grades K-12. However, in order to prepare our students to be qualified for the advanced requirements of the 21st century, the Center had to be reinvented to a discretely focused STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education facility – the only of its kind in Pinellas County.

With our discrete STEM programming,
the Center has effectively adopted a much broader mission. Education, and more importantly STEM education, cannot be effective without the integration of industry needs and support.

We believe that industry is the ultimate customer of the educational process. The “factory” must be linked between K-12, informal education, post secondary, and beyond to internships, mentorships and into appropriate industries.

Cyber Security Training

Enroll in our Cyber Security Program today!

The program will prepare students for careers in cyber security – with the skills and knowledge necessary to protect national, corporate, and civilian networks. Our real-world learning methodology blends academic and practical experience and covers the most important foundational principles for securing a network and managing risk. Students will gain valuable knowledge in access control, identity management and cryptography, hands-on experience with computer hardware and software, and appropriate mitigation and deterrent techniques to address network attacks and vulnerabilities associated with both traditional and cloud computing. The content will prepare students to pass the following globally recognized CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) certifications: A + , Network + and Security +.

Tuition Breakdown

A+ Module - $1,035.00 Network+ Module - $980.00 Security+ Module - $992.00

Tuition for each module includes the textbook and the cost of the certification tests. Tuition for each module also includes a $25.00 cancellation fee.  The student must complete each successive module before beginning the next, but is not required to pass the certification test(s) for that module.

Irrigation Technician Training

Obtain the skills needed for a career in irrigation services. Upon successful completion of 3 weeks of hands-on classroom training, participants are referred to local employers for interviews. This program will expose participants to basic excavation, pipefitting and all tasks associated with maintenance, repair and entry level management of irrigation systems.

Construction Training

Upon successful completion of four weeks of hands-on classroom training and certification, participants are referred to local construction employers and apprenticeship programs for direct hire, apprenticeship program enrollment, paid work experience, or on-the-job training opportunities.

Training modules will offer applied experience in trades such as:

  • Carpentry
  • Electrical
  • HVAC
  • Masonry
  • Plumbing & Pipefitting

Upon completion, you will earn:

  • Nationally recognized NCCER Core Curriculum Certification & Wallet Card
  • OSHA 10 Certification

Soldering & Cabling Training

The Soldering and Cabling Program provides no-cost training opportunities to earn nationally recognized certifications manufacturing employers require. Participants complete three weeks of classroom activities and one week of employability skills training. Individuals who successfully complete the program:

- Are directly referred by CareerSource Pinellas staff to local manufacturers for interviews;
- Earn IPC 610 Cabling/Assemblies Certification; and
- J Standard Certification in Soldering.

TRAINING BEGINS EVERY MONTH!

Training is available for day or night and weekend sessions.

Certain eligibility requirements apply and funding is available to participants. Priority will be given to young adults 18 to 24. Participants must be able to pass a background check, eye exam and drug test.

Certified Production Technician Training

The Certified Production Technician program prepares individuals for front-line production work in manufacturing and the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized certification. Training consists of classroom and hands-on lab learning at no-cost to you. Participants that successfully complete the program:

  • are directly referred by CareerSource Pinellas staff to local manufacturers for interviews and
  • earn the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician credential.

3D Digital Fabrication Training

The 3D Digital Fabrication program prepares individuals to enter the high growth manufacturing industry in an entry-level engineering assistant position. In this no-cost program, students will learn how to move their designs from a model to a manufactured part via 3D printing. Participants that successfully complete the program:

  • are directly referred by CareerSource Pinellas staff to local manufacturers for interviews;
  • will have over 40 hours of hands-on lab work on a variety of 3D printers; and
  • will have started a pathway to obtain a Solidworks certification.

Industrial Machine Maintenance Training

Start your career path with ONLY 3 WEEKS of training!

No-cost training opportunities are available to earn an industry certification manufacturing employers seek. Upon successful completion of 3 weeks of hands-on classroom training, participants are referred to local manufacturers for interviews.

INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL MACHINE MAINTENANCE
Students will gain a foundation knowledge in maintenance, understanding of simple mechanical components, basic knowledge of electricity and the operation and uses of a Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) in industrial environments. Students will be introduced to basic troubleshooting tools and techniques through the use of simulations as well as hands-on activities.

The knowledge gained through this program will position participants to understand the various aspects of working in an entry-level maintenance position as well as provide the basic level knowledge to work towards a position as an entry-level maintenance technician or helper.

Certain eligibility requirements apply and funding is available to participants. Participants must be able to pass a background check, eye exam and drug test.
